Inter Counties and Masters XC champs

Whilst it may have gone a bit quiet for most of the cross country squads with several races cancelled in recent weeks, some of the team have been busy with championship races up and down the country!

On Saturday at Tonbridge in the British Masters XC champs, Mark Cursons – just 2 days into the v60 category following his Thursday birthday – ran well to win the bronze medal with a time of 33:47. Team mate Chris Finill was 5th with 34:59 and both are now looking forward to the Middx & Herts XC champs later this month at Trent Park. Below is Mark running for Veterans AC at Lloyd Park due to the Met League race being cancelled on 19th Feb – hardcore!

Further North at the Counties Athletic Union (CAU Inter Counties) races held at Prestwold Hall near Loughborough, we had a small squad of junior athletes competing for Middlesex and Herts counties.

In the mens U20 race Chris Hudson ran well to finish in 39th place over the 8.5Km course in a time of 30:38, also scoring second for team Middx.

Sofia Latham was best placed in the U17 womens race as she was first scorer for the Middx team with a 74th position finish in 22:56 despite losing both shoes in the last kilometre! Good luck Sofia who is running the English Schools CC champs this weekend in Kent.

In the U15 boys race Michael Cattini ran well to finish 113th and second Middx scorer in 15:37.

In the girls U15 event, Annabelle Suffield was Herts 4th scorer placing 188th in 18:35 and Kayla Saunders was 248th in 19:39 for Middx. Well done to all the athletes!
