May 2014 – British Athletics League – Basingstoke

Harrow Athletic Club made a solid start to its 2014 British League National Division Two campaign with fifth spot in the opening fixture at a squally Basingstoke.

We finished behind Basingstoke, Southampton, Kingston and Bristol but ahead of Derby, Nottingham and Southend.

Felix Maisey-Curtis was in superb form, winning the long jump with a big new personal best of 7.72, just five centimetres behind Dean Macey’s club record and only six centimetres behind the League record. Richard Carr took second spot in the ‘B’ string with 6.62.

Tony Daffurn also set a new personal best, winning the triple jump with 15.24. He is closing in on Harrow’s 35-year-old Club record of 15.47. Chris Alexis took second place in the ‘B’ string with 13.69.

Tom Nichols took second spot in the high jump with 1.95, despite disruption from a heavy downpour, and later finished second in the ‘B’ string sprint hurdles.

Dave Sketchley extended his British League winning streak to five matches, mastering the tricky wind to record 56.07. Luke Roach-Christie took second spot in the shot with 13.79.

Matt Carey produced the best track performance, easing to steeplechase victory in 9.26.31. Stephen Mears took second spot in the ‘B’ string 800 metres.
