Coaching at Harrow Athletic Club
Harrow Athletic Club caters for all ages from 8 years up to veterans. Our aim is to develop athletes to their full potential and to enjoy athletics. We have had some achieve international honours. We are not only interested in how fast someone runs or how high someone jumps or how far someone throws but also, more importantly, on developing their technical skills, progressing and enjoying athletics
Harrow AC is a competitive club where all athletes are encouraged to compete. We enter a wide range of competitions, which cater for ALL abilities – local, regional and national levels.
Harrow Athletic Club is the premier athletics club in the Harrow area.
If you are interested in joining, please take a trial with a training group below.

BEGINNERS GROUP – Years 4 & 5

ATTENDING A TRIAL
Please see below for each group procedure for attending a trial coaching session. It is important to follow the guide as outlined below.
On doing a trial:
Please bring suitable clothing (t-shirt, shorts, trainers, extra layers and a bottle of water).
Contact: On arrival please report to the registration desk and ask for the group you wish to attend.

Venue: Bannister Stadium (Uxbridge Rd, Harrow, Middlesex HA3 6SW – map)
Fee: £3.60 approx to use the track (each session) as Harrow Athletic Club do not manage the site.
First 2 coaching sessions free (except the track use fees), then you need to join Harrow AC
BEGINNERS GROUP – YEARS 4 & 5

BEGINNERS GROUP
Where: Bannister sports centre
When: Monday only 5:15- 6:15pm (Weds are currently not available but when they are we will let you know)
Focus on a rounded experience of athletics (run, jump and throw)
The trial will …
- Help us to understand your child’s ability and needs
- Is conducted by one of our voluntary coaches
- May also be attended by our coaching assistants
Your child will have a lot of fun doing the trial and learn a lot about their athletic ability in the process. There’s nothing to lose so come along!
INTERMEDIATE GROUPS – YEARS 6 – 10

Mondays: 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Events covered include middle distance, long jump, multi-discipline and pole vault.
Wednesdays:
6:00pm to 7:00pm – middle distance group
6:15-7:15 – sprints group

At Harrow AC we are not only interested in how fast someone runs or how far someone jumps or throws but also, more importantly, on developing the technical skills (‘how’ to run, jump and throw) required to perform at your full potential and move like a champion.
Some recent examples of successes at Harrow AC from training in other events: :
- Jade Spencer-Smith started off in sprints and now has the UK Under 15 best for PV as well as being inside the top 100 in hurdles.
- Marilyn Nwawulor started off as a sprinter and in 2016 competed for GB in the Indoor Pentathlon.
- Decathletes Dean Macey (European Silver) and Jamie Quarry (Commonwealth Games) started off in sprints and middle-distance but eventually excelled in 10 different athletic events!
Adult Training
Adult middle to long distance running group – Every Tuesday 6:45 – 7:45 pm
Please come along to our fun training sessions. We cater for all abilities from complete beginners to experienced runners.
Tuesday sessions involve interval training (running at a set pace with active rest) and can easily be catered for individuals.
If you would like to attend a session, please turn up at 6:45 pm and ask for Dave Gordon. In his absence please ask for Mike Lepps
Harrow AC is a competitive club where all athletes are encouraged to compete. The club has a wide range of races which cater for ALL abilities from local to regional and national races. Entries to all races are included in your membership as well as access to more detailed training advice from our experienced coaches and the opportunity to meet many more like-minded individuals at regular social events.
